You do not need to collect hundreds of contacts to build a useful professional network. Start with a question you are trying to answer, a project you are building or a kind of help you can offer. Then look for people for whom the conversation also has a reason to exist.

Make your request easier to answer

“I would love to pick your brain” gives the other person work. Try: “I am testing a B2B onboarding flow for small agencies. You have scaled one. Could I ask how you measured the first week? I can share our findings afterward.” The message is specific, bounded and reciprocal without pretending you already have a deal.

A good first request contains four parts: who you are, why this person, one concrete question and a small next step. Keep it short enough to read on a phone. Do not ask for a call if two sentences in chat would answer the question.

Meet people where context already exists

Communities let you contribute before asking. Events make it easier to judge conversational fit. Professional directories help you identify people, but a job title alone is a weak signal of current interest. Warm introductions can work well if you give the introducer a forwardable note with your request and possible value. Compare the available networking formats.

Follow up on the actual conversation

After meeting, write what you understood and what you agreed to do: “I will send the two pilot results; you will tell me whether this is relevant to your team.” If you made no agreement, do not invent one. Return later only with a relevant update. A network becomes useful through remembered context and dependable next steps, not automated check-ins.

If you are seeking a business partner, make the proposed contribution explicit. A cofounder search needs an even deeper working test. AI can help prepare and match context, but it cannot create another person's interest; see where it helps.

Keep the next step under your control

In Intent OS, a reviewed profile and a current goal serve different purposes. The profile describes supported experience; a goal states who you need now and what you intend to contribute. A suggestion cannot confirm another person's availability or consent. Read how it works and the mutual-interest explanation before assuming that a profile view creates a connection.

Next step. Write one useful reason for someone to speak with you this month. Get your link in Telegram, let your AI prepare a draft profile and approve it before joining Intent OS.
